Dr. Sommers,
Please excuse the delay in sharing our blessed new. You performed a reversal on me in July of 2011. Thank you so much for your vocation. I have already offered up 20 Hail Mary's for you and you family.

We have been blessed with a beautiful baby boy who will be 4 months old this coming Monday. He was 8 lbs. even and 21" long and is growing like a weed of course. His name is Xavier Joseph, his Baptismal name is Pio. So Xavier Joseph Pio.

Dear Kathy,

My husband Jonathan and I were in your office over a year ago in January. After many months of hoping for another child I had given up hope but God likes to surprise us.....I'm 16 weeks along now! Our 4th child is due on August 10th!

Our journey to your office was a long one. After four years of praying I am finally carrying another baby. What a gift! We would never have been able to have a reversal if not for your ministry. We could not have afforded the cost. Our whole experience with you was just amazing. Not even necessarily because of the gift you gave us or that you were so great! Just meeting you and talking and realizing that we have so many of the same beliefs was such a blessing... God is so much bigger than we will ever know. The way He crossed our paths and just the blessing that you have been to us is close to miraculous!

I pray that God will bless you with more of His presence in your lives for the unbelievable gift that you have given us!! (I will send a picture after baby four gets here!)

All of my concerns/worries about flying to St. Louis (from Charlotte NC) for my vasectomy reversal were set to ease the moment I arrived for my appt and spoke with Dr. Sommers! The procedure was virtually pain free and quick..absolutely nothing like my vasectomy 6 yrs previous...I had a lot of pain during and after my vasectomy and my recovery time was much longer...it has been 2 weeks since my reversal and it's as if it never happened.. very little pain...even during my flight back home and very long walks throughout the airports...he provided me more then enough pain meds and I only had to use them the day of and 2 days following my reversal! If anyone is searching for a professional, cost effective virtually pain free vasectomy reversal I would highly recommend Midwest Vasectomy Reversals! Dr. Sommers & his assistant were wonderful. My wife left Dr. Sommers office shortly after my procedure started to have my prescriptions filled and to go to Target to do a little shopping, she said the time flew by because I was able to update her during the procedure via text to let her know everything was going smoothly.. We both are very pleased with our decision of choosing Dr. Sommers and look forward to updating him when we expand our family. :-)

Hello Dr. Sommers and Kathy,
Hope all is well with you and your family.

I told you that I would let you know if anything changed with Duane's sperm count.  We had given up hope and stopped watching for sperm.  I found out last week that I am pregnant!  It was a pleasant surprise.  Our reversal was done in December.  We thought that we would get pregnant right away because of our success before the vasectomy.   I guess that Duane just needed time to heal.

Thank you again,
Jodi

Dear Kathy,

To refresh your memory, my husband, Duane, and I visited you and Dr. Sommers in January. I have often thought of emailing you on several occasions and then it would just slip away from me again, but I wanted to let you both know we are indeed expecting so the surgery was a success! We are now at 19 weeks and counting (due in December). :) Our boys are excited and looking forward to finding out if the baby will be a new brother or a sister! I must admit I am too. I want to thank you both again for the kindness you showed to us and for helping us follow the path to this new blessing in our lives.

Hope all is well for your family as well!

Sincerely,
Vanessa

RE:  Ummm... that [pregnancy] was faster than I expected....

Dr Sommers:

I have been meaning to drop you a line and just never made the time to do so.

Had my reversal in August of this year. Almost ten years since the original so I was cautiously pessimistic that it would work.

Process was incredibly simple. Had very clear instructions for the pre-op stuff I needed to do. The procedure itself went very easy. Nobody is going to say that having your business cut on and sewed up is something you line up to cheer for so the anticipation was far more painful than anything that happened during the process! Operations are operations and the technical aspect of it was left to Dr. Sommers, to be honest. You trust the doctor and leave it at that, you know. I really don't recall much about the actual procedure. What I remember was the aesthetic of the entire experience. I know Dr Sommers does these constantly. The fact of the matter is, I should have been one more number on the board, one more hash mark on the balance sheet.

I did not feel that way at all. When I was talking to Dr Sommer and the staff it felt as if I was the only patient in the world. I felt confident that you were all personally interested and invested in my wellbeing and the long term success of the procedure. Upon leaving, Dr Sommers gave me his cell number to contact him directly if I had any concerns and he called me the next day to see how I was doing. I can honestly say that I have never felt that level of care from a Doctor anywhere in the past.

That sense of caring is so vitally important in these days of corporate medicine where the patient is a number on a chart and feels more like a factory part than an individual. The atmosphere, the genuine concern that I felt is enough to make me heartily reccomend Midwest Vascectomy Reversals to anyone. That said, there is the question of effectiveness. A good experience that was only a placebo would be cold comfort, would it not? Well, the baby is due almost one year to the day of my reversal. I guess results speak for themselves....

Thank you so much and God bless.

From some online reviews:

My Reversal I want to just say a few words about Midwest Vasectomy Reversal. From the moment my wife and I decided to do the reversal it was up to her to find the place and set up the whole thing up. I didn't really have much to do with it other than coming up with the money and actually showing up for the process. From the moment I walked in the clean and modest office Dr. Tom and his staff made me feel at home. They talked me through the whole process with great concern about my comfort and pain level. When I say pain level he wanted me to have no pain at all and that's pretty much what the whole process has been. As for pain I would say none as it has just been soreness and discomfort. I'm now over a week out an doing fine. I have hade questions along they way an Dr Tom has answered my text with in minutes. I highly recomend their services!  --- From Kudzu.com

Word cannot express the level of care and professionalism exhibited by Dr. Sommers and his staff. When I began my journey down the road for a reversal, I was prepared to travel anywhere in the US to work with the best physicians skilled in this procedure. What a pleasant surprise to find the very best located in my own backyard, St. Louis. From the very beginning, you gain tremendous comfort from the knowledge that Dr. Sommers’ practice is focused entirely on this single procedure. And having been through the process himself, Dr. Sommers can truly share his experience and expectations. I found their website extremely informative and actually preempted nearly all my questions and concerns. The procedure was comfortable for both my wife and me. I am recovering well and eager to begin working towards my new family. I can, without hesitation, highly recommend Dr. Sommers to anyone wishing to have a vasectomy reversal.

”I was very nervous at first but the staff made it very plesent for my wife and I. The reversal went very smooth and faster than I expected. The discomfort was very well controlled. I would recommend Dr. Sommers to anyone as a very professional doctor. I am very happy with my choice to go to

In Virginia
‎ - 3 months ago   I decided to travel to have a reversal by Dr. Sommers for four reasons: (1) He does reversals every week and I wanted someone who made this operation his specialty. (2) He offered a straightforward procedure with local anesthesia, unlike some others. (3) Besides having less risk, this approach and single-procedure focus keeps his costs down; and it was much less expensive for me to get a $250 flight into St. Louis than to have it performed by a local urologist. (4) It was a Christian-owned family enterprise, the kind I like to support. As for my experience there, Dr. Sommers took his time--he only schedules TWO procedures a day unlike some others who have to fit in three. He, his wife, and his surgical assistant were all very warm and professional, and they have a good follow up procedure. It's now four days later and I have had less pain and swelling than in my vasectomy (though I read that it's different for different men). I scheduled my flight out the following day just in case, but I could have flown out that afternoon. I decided to travel to have a reversal by Dr. Sommers, and I am SO glad I did. I wish I had found a few more reviews online when I was looking around for a doctor, so I decided to write this one. I also told Dr. Sommers that if anyone wants to contact me about my experience, I'd be glad to answer any questions (contact him for my phone number if you like). All the best!  David Vance

Here is that same couple a few months later:

Hi, Kathy!
I wanted you to know that my wife is expecting, and she's due in early January.  Thank you all for such a precious gift.  Thank you.
I'll send you a picture when the baby comes!
By His Grace, David

9/10/2012 After doing lots of research on vasectomy reversals husband and I were unsure  if our desire to  have another baby was even possible. We were given quotes from $8,000.00 to $20,000.00 with a lot of questioning of why we would even want to have another child. When I came across Midwest Vasectomy Reversals I was a bit skeptical, I was very surprised by the low cost of $3,200.00, and had a few reservations before just contacting them via email asking for information. Kathy emailed me back immediately and after exchanging emails we booked our appt. She was quick to respond to any question we had leading up to his appt. The place is clean, professional and in a nice area. Dr. Sommers went over everything completely and was very nice. He could easily charge more, but chooses not too. He is a blessing to us and when we, Lord willing, conceive he will be one of the first we send an announcement to! My husband and I recommend them whole heartedly!

9/7/2012 My husband and I came from Ohio for this surgery. It was more cost effective for us to fly, get a hotel and rental car and have the surgery than it was to stay in Ohio for the same surgery. The morning of was a great experience for both of us. We were greeted the moment we walked in the door by Carrie, the medical assistant who was very warm and inviting. She showed us to the waiting room for the wives which is decorated with a chaise lounger, books and a minifridge stocked with cool drinks and snacks. Dr. Sommers met with us to explain in detail the surgery and what we could expect. He was very easy to talk with and was very gracious. About an hour into the surgery, I went across the street to have the RX for my husband filled, this cost me $40 at the Walgreens. There is a CVS and Target nearby as well for that. When I returned, the surgery was complete. Dr. Sommers took us back into his office where he was able to tell us that everything went extremely well and he had live sperm in both the right and left sides...a very good sign for us! My husband was comfortable the entire time, we could hear them talking and laughing while they were in the room and my husband was able to text me throughout to tell me how he was doing. I simply cannot say enough about how much we loved Dr. Sommers and his office team. They truly cared for us like family and we enjoyed this experience greatly. I recommend them to anyone!

7/18/2012 Great service!  Great Price!  My husband has had a Vasectomy for 15 years and Dr. Sommers was able to get live sperm from the right side and left side!  We were considering a IVF because of all the data we have read about a reversal not being successful after 15 years but then I thought why not give it a shot since reversals still are a relatively new idea.    And I am happy we did the reversal before anything else!  If you are considering a reversal I would use Dr. Sommers.

6/12/2012 Dr. Sommers was great.  We arrived at the office and his staff was very professional. I liked that we were the only appointment he had that day--made it feel more personal when he spoke to my husband and I.  After the operation (roughly 2 hours) meanwhile I was in the lounge and received constant updates about my husbands condition, which was nice---the doctor followed up with my husband directly within 24 hours. My husband was feeling uncomfortable and sore about a week later and called Dr. Sommers on his cell and even texted my husband to make sure he was feeling better (which he was) following that. My husband was so impressed with his level of "caring" that my husband now wants to see Dr. Sommers as his full time doctor going forward!

You can't find a vasectomy reversal in the St. Louis area for this price, you just can't. I've checked. You can drive all the way to Texas if you like, but there is no need.  Dr. Sommers made is making it possible for my husband and I have to have a family of our own and we'll owe it all to him!

Posted on Catholic Forum:   I just had a vasectomy reversal done by Dr. Thomas Sommers on Monday. I googled the name and found his site called Midwest Vasectomy Reversals.
I checked with the medical board for Missouri to make sure he was licensed (he was) and check his complaint record (no complaints). I asked a million and one questions once I contacted the place. His wife, Kathy was responsive with every question I asked. The one thing that really impressed me before going was that this was his apostolate. He had his vasectomy reversed and he believes this is his calling to help others to do so at an affordable price.
..
The day of the vasectomy, we met at his office. He talked about the procedure and my concerns. After the procedure, we also talked about what I needed to do and the "next steps".
...
The procedure itself was really painless - much better than the vasectomy itself. I brought an iPod to listen to but ended up talking with he and his nurse. He was also able to check the fluid from my vas deferens to see if there was an semen (there was some), which is good.
..
Today is day three, and the usual symptoms he described were going to happen did happen. I pray that God will allow my wife and I to have children again after the mistake I made many years ago. I will update the forum when we start the process. Prayers please!

A letter from one of our patients to future patients:

I would like to take a moment to tell you about our experience in choosing a doctor, preparing for the surgery, the surgery, and finally the recovery of a vasectomy reversal.

My husband and I were married in September of 2011.  We knew right away one of the first things as a married couple we wanted to accomplish was to complete a vasectomy reversal, so we would have the opportunity to have a family together.  We began doing some research on the internet.  Not knowing what to except as far as cost or the surgery we were quite confused with all of the different choices.  Prices ranged from $2800 to over $10,000.  Now to be completely honest I wasn’t sure I wanted to go for the least costly but then do we want to spend large amounts on a “maybe”.  We needed to hear from the doctors’ offices.  So after the internet research it was time to complete a couple of phone interviews.  This was very important to me.  I asked my husband to make the calls because he was the one having the surgery. I wanted him to make the choice on who he felt comfortable with.  In late November he started making calls.  The 1st office he called the receptionist answered the line and my husband began to ask her questions about the cost of the procedure, how their office completed the surgery, and the recovery.  The person on the other line did not have many answers and frankly was pretty rude.  The next call was to Dr. Sommers’ office at Midwest Vasectomy Reversals.  Well they say you only have 1 chance to make a 1st impression, I can say this office is spot on.  Mrs. Kathy Sommers’ answered the phone; her tone so nice and inviting.  Kathy was able to answer all the questions my husband had and told him to please call back with any other questions.  We discussed the answers to his questions and came up with a few more.  My husband called the office back and spoke with Kathy a 2nd time.  Just the same as the 1st call, Kathy was very nice and sincere.  She answered all our questions again.  While the cost was not our 1st determining factor when choosing an office it worked out well with Midwest Vasectomy Reversals.  We were able to have a great personal experience at an affordable cost.  We scheduled our procedure for December 29, 2011.  Before the surgery Kathy sent us a health questionnaire and pre-op and post op instructions.  This process was extremely quick and easy.

On the day of the surgery we arrived at Dr. Sommers’ office.  We were greeted by the surgical assistant and made to feel welcome in the office.  Next we had a consultation with Dr. Sommers.  Dr. Sommers explained the procedure in great detail.  He explained what to expect before, during, and after the surgery.  This was very comforting to us especially since Dr. Sommers explained he had been through what my husband was going through. When the procedure began Dr. Sommers numbed the area without the use of a needle. The numbing agent was applied by spraying a fine mist on the area.  The procedure lasted about 3 hours.  My husband said he was comfortable throughout the entire process.  I was able to text and talk via phone with my husband throughout the process.  And about mid way through the procedure I was able to leave the office and visit Walgreens across the street from the office. (Very convenient location).  I picked up the antibiotics and pain medicine that had been called in before the procedure and returned to the office.  When I returned my husband had about 15 minutes left.  He came out of the procedure room with Dr. Sommers.  Dr. Sommers then asked me to join them in his office.  He explained how the surgery went and again reviewed the post op instructions.  Dr. Sommers stated he would call the next day to check in and see my husband was doing.  And just was he promised we received a check up call the next day.  My husband experienced swelling for several days after the procedure but was able to handle normal day to day activities.  The bruising and swelling lasted about 8 days for him.  Today 2 weeks after the surgery the stitches have dissolved the swelling is gone and he is back to normal activities.

When deciding to have this procedure done, you have to spend the time and energy in your research.  With that said we cannot recommend Midwest Vasectomy Reversals enough.  We have had the best experience and will hopefully be blessed with a baby.  We would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Sommers, Mrs. Kathy Sommers, and the staff of Midwest Vasectomy Reversals for making this a comfortable experience.  If you have questions please call and speak with Kathy.  This office is more than willing to help before, during, and after the surgery.  Best wishes for a successful experience!!

Sincerely,

Shannon and Keith
