Essential Stops During the Procedure
Typically, the procedure will last about 1.25 hours from the start.
We will have the patient text you when we are finished with the first side. It often takes longer because of anatomy issues, but that does NOT mean there is a problem. We are just letting you know so you're not rushing back to the office unnecessarily.
In the meantime, if you have not picked up the frozen peas that he will want after the procedure, you should consider walking or driving up the street to Schnucks Grocery Store to pick those up. We have a freezer section in the refrigerator in our waiting room where you can store them. Additionally please purchase some Ibuprofen 200mg tablets if you have not brought those along.
If it is after 9 am, you will likely have time to pick up the prescription for pain medicine if it was sent in to Millbrook Pharmacy (approx 1 mile from the office). You'll need to bring the patient's ID and the insurance card. It costs around $20 cash if you do not have insurance. He will not need this immediately after the procedure, so if you don't have time to get it or prefer not to get it, that is fine.
He will typically NOT be able to use his phone during most of the procedure because even small movements are disruptive while we are completing the repair.
You are also certainly welcome to sit in the waiting room for the entire procedure and never leave. Some people are nervous about leaving the patient or concerned about safety, so sitting in the waiting room during the entire procedure is completely fine.
